Dear First Methodist Family,

I hope you’ll join us for the beginning of our “Life Together” message series that begins this weekend.    We’re exploring how important life together is in God’s plan for the people of His Church.  The first message is called “Belonging with a Purpose.”  There is a great reason for the community, and we’ll be talking about that for five weeks as we use Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s book; Life Together as fumcwaco, message, seriesa foundational source for the series.  You can also go to our website and download personal devotional and curriculum that will track with this series.  At the conclusion of the series, (February 11th and 12th) we will all have an opportunity to make a commitment to a volunteer area/s in our church through our IVOLUNTEER emphasis.

Last weekend the message was “Vital Signs.”   We saw how important spiritual disciplines are to our growing in faith.   It’s amazing what applied faith can accomplish in and through an individual life and in the life of a church and Jesus asked for devoted followers.  He never asked us to dabble at following he asked us to be devoted. You won’t want to miss weekend worship as we do life together in these beginning days of a new year.

You might have noticed the “IVOLUNTEER” cards in the pew pockets at church.  You’ll also receive a card in the mail.  Together we can build a great church, and there is a service area that needs your gifts.

There are currently many places to serve in our church, but we are searching for volunteers who will learn how to operate our sound board and operate the board on Sunday mornings.   9:30 is contemporary in nature, and we have a real need for people to operate that system each Sunday.    Please e-mail me if you’re interested.  I’ll hook you up with Aaron Konzelman, and he will give you exceptional training, so you’ll be ready to help in worship.  We need volunteers in all three of our morning services.

2016 was a special year for our church.  We finished the year with all commitments met financially and had strong membership growth at the end of the year.  The Christmas Eve offering, designated for our June Feed My Starving Children packing event, raised over 22,000 dollars.  Your giving will feed 170,000 meals to starving children, once we assemble the food items and ship them to those children.  We’re hoping to raise 35,000 dollars, which buys the actual food items, which we will assemble and ship on June 25th, but we’re confident we’ll cover the costs because we’re almost there.  If you’ve been with us in the past in these events, hundreds of volunteers meet in our Family Life Center and assemble these much-needed food packs.  It’s great fun and a great ministry.

I hope you’ve had a chance to check out the 5:30 pm Sunday contemporary worship service.   It’s a match of the Sunday morning message and is designed to meet the scheduling needs of a busy congregation.  I invite you to attend at your first opportunity.   I’d also like to take the chance to read the blogs of the pastors, you can respond to what you read, and you can sign up and get an e-mail alert when a new blog is posted.

Confirmation is beginning.  If you have a confirmation age child, sign up quickly.  It’s one of the best events we do at First Methodist.   Shine is also upon us.  Don’t let your teen miss this life changing weekend!
