Wisdom Walking

May 22, 2017

One of the aspects of the Bible that I have learned to love...  is its honesty in regard to human beings.   It a book about real people and a real God and the relationships between people and God.   It's full of the "nitty gritty" of human living as God lean's in toward the fallen people he created.   It's an amazing book.  I encourage you to read it.   As I've said many times..   "God never shuts His mouth until you shut His book."   When  we open His book and begin reading, God always starts talking.

One message of the Bible that is a constant is this notion of a God offered wisdom that is bigger than any human wisdom.   A wisdom that comes from God that will help us in our life journey with a sure Guide.   Proverbs is one of the best books in the Bible to help us with our wisdom walking.

The writer of Proverbs repeatedly emphasizes that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.  It is the central thesis for  his writing.  He extols the excellence of the wisdom that God offers, and reflects upon the benefits of seeking God's wisdom.   He warns of the foolishness of dimissing or ignoring God's wisdom in our lives.  That it is like swimming in the ocean while your hear the theme song of "Jaw's" and you just keep going to deeper and deeper water.   Wisdom is that when the theme song of "Jaw's" is being played you need to get out of the water and into the boat.    Wisdom is listening to God and responding wisely.   To whole-heartedly embrace God's wisdom brings life:  we ignore it to our loss.  Wisdom walking today is how we find life tomorrow.

"Those who trust in themselves are fools, but those who walk in wisdom are kept safe." ---  Proverbs 28:26

Pray this prayer with me:   Lord of wisdom, God of grace, we seek You and Your wisdom for life.  We confess the foolishness of trusting in ourselves and our own wisdom, and we look to You to lead an direct us.  Let Your truth, Your wisdom, flood our minds and shape the choices we make.   Help us wisely see life from your perspective that is eternal and sure and lean into that perspective and not ours which has such a limited and finite view.  Guard and guide us as we embrace Your wisdom and embody it through our lives.  In Jesus' name, amen.
