The True Vine

February 21, 2018

"I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in Me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing. V. 5 (NIV)

Reading: John 15:1-8

Reflection by Beth Gray

Have you ever noticed how some vines are incredibly green and flexible as they reach out to take hold of something nearby? Likewise, have you ever seen hard, brittle, decaying vine branches that have tightly wrapped around an unsuspecting nearby object? They are brown, hard, broken and without life.

Jesus tells us in John 15:1-8, that He is the True Living Vine. He promises us that if we remain in Him, we will be able to do much. If we bear fruit, Jesus will help us to be even more fruitful for Him.

It is for the Father's glory that we bear much fruit, showing ourselves to be His disciples. When we bear fruit, Jesus can use us even more for His purpose!

Bearing fruit is not about bringing glory to ourselves, but to God! Aren't you excited to get to be part of Jesus' team? What a blessing to have the opportunity to remain in Jesus!

Prayer: Dear Jesus, help me to stay rooted in You so I can bear much fruit. In Your Name I pray, Amen.

Action Point: Pick one way you can bear fruit for the next four weeks, and then do it!
